DAY 3

Date : September 11, 2021

Lima, Peru

After breakfast at the hotel you will be collected to begin a tour of the city’s main sights. The tour begins with an exploration of Colonial Lima. First, we will stop off at the Main Square, to get a chance to explore the square on foot and admire the beautiful Government Palace and the City Hall – all examples of Lima’s still-present colonial architectural opulence. We will visit the Cathedral of Lima; as we travel to the past and discover various architectural styles (from Renaissance to Neo-Classical) and learn about the religious history of Peru. Then, we will visit Casa Aliaga, a colonial mansion that currently holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously inhabited private residence in the Southern Hemisphere. Afterwards, we will head to the Pueblo Libre District and visit the Larco Museum, an eighteenth-century Viceregal mansion that houses more than 3,000 years of Peru’s pre- Columbian history. The museum boasts a supremely fine collection of gold and silver jewelry and worship paraphernalia that demonstrates the superb skill of ancient Peruvian gold and silversmiths. The Larco Museum also contains a famous collection of erotic ceramic tomb art that gives insights into various aspects of pre-Columbian sexuality. Lunch will be at Café del Museo Restaurant. We will complete our tour of Lima with a visit to the Bohemian neighborhood of Barranco, an area called home by countless artists, photographers, and authors. Walk along peculiar streets lined with Republican houses, admire the splendid views, and visit the Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs), witness to untold numbers of past and present romances, and source of inspiration for one of Peru’s great composers, Chabuca Granda.

DAY 4

Date : September 12, 2021

Puerto Maldonado

After breakfast we will check out and head to the airport for a short flight to Puerto Maldonado. On arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we will be met at the airport and escorted on the 25-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River to the Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción lodge. After lunch, we will take a walk along the Concepción trail system, where we can explore and learn more about primary and secondary forest, their vegetation, uses, the changes caused by humankind and the importance of the forests to the rest of the world. In the late afternoon, we will set off on an excursion by motorized canoe to learn more about the night time forest. We will learn about this ecosystem composed of Amazonian gullies, how the forest’s nocturnal fauna behaves and even take the time to enjoy the sight of the southern hemisphere’s constellations. Dinner will be at the lodge

DAY 5

Date : September 13, 2021

Puerto Maldonado

After breakfast, we will take a forest trail walk to Lake Sandoval in the Tambopata National Reserve. We will explore the lake’s waters in a wooden canoe. This lake is home to many endangered species, such as giant river otters, red howler monkeys, red-bellied macaws, anacondas and side-necked turtles. After lunch, we will literally walk through the tropical forest canopy for around a quarter of a mile, crossing a network of bridges that connect eight observation platforms. This excursion offers the prospect of spotting colorful toucans, woodpeckers and trogons, as well as monkeys, sloths and many other Amazon species. Dinner will be at the lodge

DAY 6

Date : September 14, 2021

Cusco / Sacred Valley

There will be time to enjoy a full breakfast before we leave. A 25-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River will take us to Puerto Maldonado, where we will visit the Butterfly House. Peru has more species of butterfly than anywhere else in the world, with 3700 known species. Many of these can be seen at the Butterfly House, where these fascinating insects can be observed in all their rich variety and extraordinary beauty. Following this visit, we will be transferred to the airport for our return flight to Cusco. Upon arrival in Cusco, we meet our local representative and transfer to the hotel in the Sacred Valley. The afternoon will be at leisure

DAY 7

Date : September 15, 2021

Sacred Valley of the Incas

This morning we will continue the trip toward Chinchero village, at an altitude 12,375 ft above sea level (3,772m), famous for its extraordinary beauty and the quality of its textiles, as well as its’ Sunday fair, where local people dress in traditional colourful outfits and travel down from their villages to trade their goods. We will walk along the villages traditional alleyways and visit the weavers’ workshop of Nilda Callañaupa, who 28 years ago decided to bring together like-minded women who shared her passion for weaving and in time was able to motivate younger women who had lost interest in weaving to learn from their elders and connect once more with this ancestral art. She began working in the yard of her own house in Chinchero, and in 1996 her project became the Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, a strong organization dedicated not only to the preservation, but also the commercialization of beautiful, high quality textiles. This visit will be greatly enriched with the explanation of the protagonist of this story, Nilda Callañaupa. Then we will head towards the Salt Pans of Maras. The sight of this still-operating salt mine, in use since Incan times, will amaze you the stark white of the steeply descending salt pans juxtaposed against the green of the surrounding mountain slopes. The journey will continue on until we reach the archaeological site of Moray. Used as an agricultural testing ground, the sites system of circular terraces descends 490 ft (150m) from where we will stand, serving as a perfect testament to the level of advancement achieved by the Incas, who excelled at building masterful constructions in harmony with nature. Lunch at Hacienda Huayoccari.

DAY 8

Date : September 16, 2021

Sacred Valley of the Incas & Machu Picchu

This morning we will continue the trip toward Ollantaytambo, which was once fiercely guarded by a massive fortress. We will discover the large archaeological complex of what used to serve as a wayside inn for royal delegations on long journeys. Surviving structures here include multiple walls and towers that were used to protect the citadel from possible invasions. We will also visit the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Aboard a comfortable VISTADOME train, you will depart for the Aguas Calientes train station, enjoying a spectacular view along the way. Upon arrival, we will be escorted to the Restaurant to have lunch. After lunch, we will board a bus that will take us to the entrance gate of the Machu Picchu citadel. Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham more than a century ago, Machu Picchu is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Its architectural beauty, spectacular natural landscapes and the energy held in its enigmatic structures will take your breath away. Follow in the footsteps of the ancient Incans as you explore this magical citadel along with the tour guide. At the scheduled time, we will return to Aguas Calientes. Dinner at the hotel.

DAY 9

Maccu Picchu / Cusco

Today we will enjoy a second visit to the Macchu Picchu including a visit to Huayna Picchu. Lunch will be at Sumaq Hotel. At the scheduled time, we will be escorted to the Aguas Calientes train station to board the return VISTADOME train to Cusco Upon the arrival at the station just outside of Cusco, our private transfer service will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in the city.

DAY 10

Date : September 18, 2021

Cusco

In the morning we will set out on a day trip to see some of the sights of Cusco’s southern region. After 14 miles (23 km), we will take the turnoff toward Tipon, an amazing archaeological complex of elevated platforms and terraces, where spring waters still flow through the site’s impressive system of fountains and aqueducts. Continuing the trip, we will make our way across stunning Andean landscapes filled with quaint, remote villages until we reach the pre-Incan citadel of Pikillacta (City of Fleas). We will stop to visit this impressive site of nearly 120 acres (50 hectares) of small enclosures, terraces, stonewalls, and storage buildings. Next, we will head towards Andahuaylillas, which is home to San Pedro Apóstol (St. Peter the Apostle), one of the most outstanding churches in the Andes. Known as the Sistine Chapel of Peru, this church will dazzle us with the beauty of its splendidly decorated murals and frescoes. Enjoy a Box lunch in Andahuaylillas and the afternoon at leisure.

DAY 11

Cusco / Lima / Departure

As the last begins, we will embark on a cultural tour of Cusco. We will begin the tour with the visit to the nearby Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a colossal structure built with huge carved rocks jointed with absolute accuracy, this astounding sample of the Incan military architecture is, undoubtedly, the greatest architectonic work of the Tahuantinsuyo. But, in addition, it proves the undeniable firmness of the great administrative capacity of the empire and its powerful logistic system capable of mobilizing and organizing such a work. As we return to the lower part of the city, we will stop off at the San Pedro Market, which being the city’s main street market, will give you an opportunity to get to know the products of Cusco, overwhelming you with the sights, aromas, tastes, and colors of the region. Just a few blocks away, we will have a Panoramic visit to one of the most impressive buildings of Incan Cusco: the Qoricancha (the Golden Temple) – a temple dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, whose interior walls were said to have been covered in gold. We will complete the day with a stroll through the Main Square, where we will visit the Cathedral and admire its exquisite vestibules and priceless paintings from the Cusco School of the 17th and 18th centuries. At the scheduled time, transfer to the airport to depart for Lima, arriving in time to check in for your flight home.
